Covington - Cleland C. Douglass, 67, of Rt. 2 Covington, died at 9:25 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Danville, Ill., after an illness of several months. Mr. Douglass had been a salesman for Pioneer Seed Corn in this area since his retirement from farming in 1960. He was active in organization of the Fountain County Historical Society. He was a member of the Covington Presbyterian Church where he was an elder for many years. He was a member of the Indiana Historical Society, Sons of American Revolution at Indianapolis, Purdue Ag Club and the Fulton-Banta Post 291 American Legion. A 1918 graduate of Covington High School, he later attended Purdue University. He was born Jan. 13, 1900, in Covington, to O.S. and Kate (Fields) Douglass. He was married Aug. 8, 1929, to Mildred Bodine. Surviving are the widow and a son, C. Thomas, a Purdue University student. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Covington Presbyterian Church with Rev. Oliver Starn officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted. Bodine and Shelby Funeral Home has charge of arrangements and the body will be at the family home on Rt. 2, west of Covington, where friends may call after 6 p.m. today and Saturday afternoon and evening. The body will lie in state at the church one hour before services.
